The NOC is inviting interested persons, particularly from the Caribbean Small Island Developing States (SIDS), to participate in an online stakeholder workshop on Coastal Monitoring and Modelling for SIDS.
Spaces at the workshop are limited, and preference will be given to participants from Commonwealth countries, especially the Caribbean region, who are eligible to participate in the Commonwealth Marine Economies Programme.
At this workshop we will share information and guidance on Coastal Monitoring and Modelling for Climate Change Impact and Adaptation in SIDS, which we have developed under the Commonwealth Marine Economies Programme over the last four years. This includes local case studies, datasets and models that cover the whole Caribbean Sea.
This initial consultation workshop will be held on Thursday 26 November 2020 from 15:00-18:00 UTC and will focus on ascertaining the key local issues and concerns, which can be addressed using monitoring and modelling tools. It will also look to identify priority sites for assessment. The consultation workshop will consist of three short presentations on coastal oceanography; data collection; and modelling, interspersed with interactive discussions.
The aim of this work is to disseminate increased understanding of marine science and how it can clarify coastal impacts of climate change for SIDS in the Caribbean.
The intended beneficiaries are coastal managers, government departments and coastal scientists. It is anticipated that this knowledge may be used in drawing up Climate Change Adaptation Plans, Early Warning Systems for marine hazards and Marine Economy Plans.
