7 and 8 January 2015 – The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) is hosting an event to co-ordinate future greenhouse gas research in the UK, on behalf of the UK Greenhouse Gas Scientific community.
Registration for this ‘Greenhouse gas town hall meeting’ is being co-ordinated by Dr Stefan Matthiesen from the University of Edinburgh, and it will be held at the National Oceanography Centre between 7 and 8 January. This event will bring together scientists from across the UK from research institutes, funding agencies and universities. The schedule includes a keynote talk from Professor Corinne LeQuere, Professor of Climate Change Science and Policy at the University of East Anglia and Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research.
Professor Richard Sanders of the NOC, meeting convenor, said “We are delighted that NOC is hosting this meeting which comes at an important point midway through the NERC Greenhouse Gas research programme and which will lay out a roadmap for the future of greenhouse gas research in the UK.”
The first day of the meeting will be concerned with reviewing ideas about the key scientific challenges in the field and the second day with identifying the key research needed to address these challenges. Day one is due to include a speed dating session to encourage scientists to share their ideas about the key priorities for greenhouse gas research observation and breakout groups to work out solutions to these challenges.
The current NERC funded greenhouse gas project is well established; however the key scientific issues it is addressing will persist long after the project comes to an end. This meeting aims to establish the key challenges in greenhouse gas research that future programmes should consider tackling.
