Professor Trevor Baker has been awarded the Paul Melchior Medal at the 18th International Symposium on Geodynamics and Earth Tides for “outstanding service and leadership”. This prestigious medal is awarded every four years to recognise outstanding scientists with huge experience and influence in the Tidal Community.

NOC’s Professor John Huthnance has been awarded the European Geosciences Union’s prestigious Fridtjof Nansen medal for his outstanding contribution to our understanding of physical processes in coastal and shelf seas, especially in the North Sea, and at the continental shelf break.

The winners of the Natural Environment Research Council’s (NERC) inaugural Impact Awards have been announced at a prize-giving ceremony in London, with scientists from the National Oceanography Centre (NOC) amongst those being recognised for their work.

The National Oceanography Centre (NOC) and the University of Southampton have been presented with the ‘International Maritime Partner’ award at the annual ‘BlueTech & Blue Economy’ summit in San Diego, in order to recognise their ongoing engagement with The Maritime Alliance.

The Executive Director of the National Oceanography Centre, Professor Ed Hill OBE, has been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Bangor University for services to marine science.
